Arctic route opens for LNG tankers ahead of schedule

Russia’s 17.4mil mt/year Yamal LNG project had loaded a cargo early last week to supply it to a Chinese buyer. The 172,600cbm an Ice-Class tanker “Christophe de Margerie” had last week left the liquefaction project and sailed through the Arctic route, considered to be the best route to serve the demand for the Asian buyers, for the Russian major.
Normally, Arctic route opens sometime late in May or early in June but this time, Yamal LNG loaded the cargo from its liquefaction terminal at Sabetta in Russia sometime third week of May. The cargo loaded for a China based buyer, is expected to reach its destination Jintang, China, sometime during second week of June.
