RIL BP JV shuts down KG basin gas operation

Indian major RIL and its joint venture partner BP have shutdown Krishna Godavari (KG) Basin deep water offshore field, following sustained fall in gas production. Gas production had reached to an abysmally low level of around 1.5 mcmd for the past couple of months. Oil production from MA fields of KG basin was stopped late in 2018 by RIL. The British major BP had acquired 30% stake in KG basin field. Oil and gas production from the KG fields peacked in 2010 but following that it started sliding down due to water and sand ingress in gas production wells in D1, D3 and D6 fields. The BP RIL JV confirmed shutdown of D1, D3 fields late on Monday. BP-RIL JV is also developing three R Cluster, Satellite cluster and MJ fields. Natural gas production from these fields were expected to begin sometime middle of 2020.
